The Daisy F. Young papers contain material related to Young and her family. Although some materials document Daisy Young's life and associations, most relate to the life and career of her son, civil rights activist and politican Andrew Young. Correspondents include: Jimmy Carter, Henry Chauncey Jr., William T. Green, Carlton J. Johnson, Donald O. Newby, Thelma D. Smith, Norma Stauffer, Homer L. Vail, J. Coleman Wililams, Andrew Young, and Jean Young. The majority of the letters are from Andrew to his parents at various stages in his life. Of note is a 1979 letter from President Jimmy Carter to Daisy Young following Andrew Young's resignation as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Photographs document both the Young family and Andrew Young's careers as minister and politician. Newspaper clippings and collected publications document various aspects of Andrew Young's career, from his early work with the Southern Chrisitian Leadership Conference (SCLC) through his later political campaigns and terms. The collection contains two scrapbooks kept by Daisy Young. Due to preservation concerns, material from the first scrapbook was removed to folders; it documents Andrew Young's SCLC years and the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
